Here’s your illustrated guide to Obamacare human props.
In July, Obama hosted a White House citizen town hall that featured three face-to-face questions. The lucky three?
*Debby Smith. You remember her. She choked back tears as she talked of her battle with kidney cancer, her joblessness, and her lack of insurance. Obama hugged the trembling woman and dubbed her “Exhibit A” for his massive entitlement program.
Debby Smith, however, is no ordinary patient. While she may be “unemployed,” she has been rather busy working for the Obama campaign – as a volunteer for the DNC’s Organizing for America. Smith also identified herself as a worker for the Virginia Organizing Project, which has been coordinating lobbying trips and health care forums with HCAN. Yes, that same HCAN. In December, Smith moderated a “a community discussion on health care issues” in Appalachia, Virginia and told her local paper that the meeting “would be reported back to former Sen. Tom Daschle, who has been directed by President Elect Barack Obama to form a committee to report on health care issues.”
*Jason Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum works for the Washington, D.C.-based Health Care for America Now (HCAN). That’s the K Street Astroturf outfit with a $40 million budget to lobby for government-run health care linked to left-wing billionaire George Soros. And yes, the same HCAN directing its mob to “drown out” opponents at town hall meetings.
*SEIU member. Yes, wonder of wonders, this randomly chosen questioner just happened to be a member of the Purple Shirt Army that poured $80 million in independent expenditures into Democrat coffers, made 4.4 million phone calls for Obama, sent out more than 2.5 million Obama mailings during the 2008 campaign, and dispatched thugs to drown out town hall protesters….

© 2009 WorldNetDailyPresident Obama may be using his political action committee funds to stomp out eligibility lawsuits brought by Americans, as he has paid more than $1.35 million to his top lawyer since the election.
Obama for America, Obama’s 2008 political campaign, merged with the Democratic National Committee in January and is now known as Organizing for America. The grassroots army that some refer to as “Obama 2.0” is still collecting financial contributions.
Federal Election Commission records for “Obama for America” show that the lobby organization has paid international law firm Perkins Coie exactly $1,352,378.95 since the 2008 election.

EXCLUSIVE: Panel sees race bias in health care bill
The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights says some little-noticed provisions in the House health care bill are racially discriminatory, and it intends to ask President Obama and Congress to rewrite sections that factor in race when awarding billions in contracts, scholarships and grants.
The commission also fears the programs, which are designed to improve health care in underserved areas, will not be effective.
In a draft of a letter the commission approved Friday, the group raises constitutional questions about giving preferential treatment to minority students for scholarships, and about favoring medical schools and organizations that have a record of sending graduates to areas with inadequate health care services.
“These programs are unlikely to reduce health care disparities among racial and ethic groups,” according to the draft letter obtained by The Washington Times. “A growing body of evidence indicates that increasing access to high-quality physicians – whatever their racial or ethnic ancestry – is the best way to mitigate such disparities.”
The draft letter also cites testimony from Dr. Amitabh Chandra of Harvard University who said the idea that expanding the number of minority physicians and providing “cultural competence training” will bridge the health status gap is “grounded in hope more than science,” according to the draft language.
It cites research from Dr. Chandra that found that improving the quality of health care in the 500 largest minority serving areas would improve minority health care more than the elimination of racial disparities within every provider in the U.S.
The commission approved the draft language by a vote of 4-2, with two abstentions. Two Republicans and two independents voted for it, two Democrats voted against it, and two Republicans abstained. The letter needs to be approved again before being sent. …Continue Reading

Gonzales says probe could harm CIA’s efforts

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Tuesday that any criminal investigation into whether CIA interrogations after 9/11 crossed legal lines could have a chilling effect on U.S. anti-terrorism efforts.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Gonzales said if the Justice Department launches an investigation it “could discourage” CIA operatives from “engaging in conduct that even comes close” to department guidelines.
“So where do you draw the line?” he said. “What is allowed, what’s not allowed?”
Attorney General Eric Holder is weighing whether to name a criminal investigator to determine whether laws were violated during interrogations of terrorism suspects after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
President Barack Obama has said no CIA official who followed legal guidance on interrogations will be prosecuted, but Holder is examining whether any CIA interrogations went so far beyond those instructions that they should face criminal charges. Holder has not yet made a decision whether to launch such an investigation.
Gonzales, who was former President George W. Bush’s attorney general until he resigned in 2007, said he’s talked to CIA lawyers who’ve heard from the agency’s operatives.
“They’re very, very concerned about the legal liability and legal exposure,” he told the AP. “And that’s the danger with launching some kind of investigation. But, again, this is a decision that’s got to be made by the current attorney general.”
The move would be certain to stir partisan bickering on Capitol Hill. Republicans in Congress have said such a criminal investigation would demonize the CIA and hamper U.S. efforts to fight terrorism in the future. Such an investigation, they contend, could make CIA officials unnecessarily timid in chasing terror suspects, or it could reveal sensitive intelligence techniques. …Continue Reading
